In the Booth with Ruth – Hunter S. Jones, Author

Hunter S. Jones

What’s your writing background? When did you begin writing and what inspired you?

Writing is what I have always done. Some people play music, some dance, others paint and some of us write.

How often do you write? And how do you manage to fit in writing among other commitments?

Ruth, I attempt to write at least 100 words every day, but some days are better than others. Sometimes, I research until the words flow freely, other times the words magically appear. Then, there are days when nothing much happens at all. You never know what type day it’s going to be until you get started developing your concept.

In which genre do you most enjoy writing?

The paranormal/supernatural genre is my favourite to write.

What draws you to write in that genre?

Maybe it is easy for me to write in this genre because life has so many unexplained mysteries. It makes it easy to believe that there really are forces larger than ourselves which can assist us in making our destiny.

Can you tell me about your current project(s)?

My debut novella, Fables of the Reconstruction, was released in October 2012. It is the story of a Belgian pimp, Pierre von Minzle, living in Victorian London with a ‘magic’ powder, claiming to be undead. He believes in Pomba Gira mysticisms & follows Creole Voodoo. He thinks he has found his equal in Mary Montague, and makes her undead, too. The story itself is told from four points of view. There is a modern, surprise twist to the book’s ending. It’s very graphic and does have a mature content warning and has been censored by Amazon at one point.

My latest project is a series of short stories – short, sexy vignettes – called Tales from a New Amsterdam. The first story will be released in December 2012.

That will be followed in Spring 2013 by Fables Book 2: Reconstruction of the Fables.

What are your writing plans for the future?

Keep in touch because I have some exciting new announcements coming up soon. I am involved in a couple of anthologies in 2013, but it’s all super-secret right now and that’s all I can tell you.
