Author of Soul Destruction: Unforgivable, a novel exposing the dark world and harsh reality of life as a drug addicted call girl. The main storyline is based loosely on events from my own life. In addition to fiction writing, I am also involved in journalism and broadcasting, primarily for human rights campaigning in the areas of sex workers' rights, anti-sexual exploitation and anti-human trafficking.

When I started, I had a very loose idea of where I wanted my story to go. I had a beginning, a few sketches around the middle and then a few months in, I had the ending. Then I would juggle stream of consciousness writing with a more controlled, editorial approach, slowly crafting and shaping the narrative structure out of the mess of scribbles, notes, words and ideas. As PBN is fairly complex, I used post-it notes on a big board to keep track of everything that was going on...

Red Hood Project, bereaved parents Todd & Canning dismiss new Facebook ad policy

“Rape, child sexual abuse and exploitation images in social media are not “controversial” and they’re not a joke,” says Glen Canning, father of Rehtaeh Parsons. “They devastate victims and destroy families. It is no answer to my daughter’s memory that Facebook thinks it’s good enough to take the ads off these pages. The pages themselves should be removed."

George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who fatally shot Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager, igniting a national debate on racial profiling and civil rights, was found not guilty late Saturday night of second-degree murder. He was also acquitted of manslaughter, a lesser charge... We The People, Didn’t Like That.

Facebook could start by including better options for reporting violations of policy and criminal activity. There could be direct links to appropriate agencies for the range of crimes committed online, from child sexual abuse images and trafficking to cyber stalking and bullying. Facebook could employ a moderator system that allows faster detection and timely responses. There could be an active law enforcement presence...

I strongly believe that film is one of the most powerful tools for communication, and when iconic images stand in for real-world complexity this can reduce anything to stereotype. So much so that prostitution is all too frequently romanticised as in ‘Pretty Woman’, or demonised as in ’Monster’...

The Merseyside Model Saves Lives – so why is it not being rolled out nationally? | Impolite Conversation

July 8, 2013 // 13 Comments

Not making the hate crime approach the national standard for people in prostitution is a hate crime in itself while women are being beaten, raped and murdered as the state looks the other way... If a particular policing approach was known to be achieving a 67% conviction rate for those who rape people in society in general, and yet it was only being used in one part of the country, there would be public uproar.

I enjoy writing crime because it gives you the opportunity to place your characters in pretty extreme, stressful situations involving death or injury, imprisonment or betrayal and it brings emotion to a story when so much is at risk for the characters.

[I]f every aspect of the Merseyside model was implemented throughout the UK then there would be a sea change. If every area had a specialist ISVA working with sex workers and every police force adopted the hate crime approach then I have no doubt that more sex workers would report crimes and, as a result, more dangerous offenders would be brought to justice. This would be hugely beneficial to the police, to sex workers and, of course, to the wider public.

I began writing various short stories and study pieces since I was in my teens and, over the years, it has evolved into novels. As far as inspirations go, I will categorise all of the great stories that have fascinated, captivated and taken me to magical places.

I like metaphor in song and I love language. I guess that’s part of - for me - the appeal of, especially, Dylan and Cohen - that magic they both have of using words like knives, scalpel like precision - I envy that. I like narrative. Last Orders is a story of an affair in Stockport before I left the town, the summer of my goodbye, and it’s a song of lost youth and love...

Max’s criminal career has been going downhill since it began when he was sixteen on an armed robbery job with his father. Now in his mid-forties, he’s spent more time in jail than on criminal endeavours and he’s back inside again. It wasn’t another getaway driver driving away prematurely that’s landed him in jail this time though. No, this time it wasn’t someone else’s mistake. This time it was his...well, the crack. He can’t actually remember doing what they said he did last week or why he did it and for that he could go down for life.
